Solheim Cup: Stacy Lewis explains tough decision to withdraw

Stacy Lewis confessed as she begs for her job on the service staff that needing to pull out of the week’s Solheim Cup has been one of the toughest choices of her profession.
Lewis suffered a back injury in Portland and had been limited to short game practice because, prompting her husband to inform Juli Inkster of her position and make sure that alternate, Ally McDonald, was earlier than anticipated.
Prior to the realisation appears that her back issue hadn’t recovered winner Lewis, who has played in the last four Solheim Cup contests, hit not a lot of shots during practice on Monday .
The Team USA captain insisted that Lewis would nevertheless have a enormous role to play behind the scenes, although inkster announced that Lewis would be replaced by McDonald, who becomes the rookie on the visiting team.
“It has been a rough, I guess, week and a half an hour,” said a psychological Lewis. “It began Friday at Portland, but that I thought I would give it two or three times and it would get better. I understand my back and I understand my body well, and it is not the first time that I’ve had issues that are back.
“And, if it was not a couple days, that is when I called Juli, and I only needed Ally to be here as reassurance for the team and for everyone. I’ve been working with physios in the house and physios here, and it just didn’t move. I felt it was similar to something which, in a couple of days, I was not going to be able to function as ripping drivers.
“I did not even have to mention anything to Juli. I think we both kind of knew that was the choice to make, so we advised Ally to find ready. I didn’t need to make this choice, but it’s what is ideal for the group and what is ideal for me going forward with my physique.”
Lewis was awarded a captain’s selection to add expertise to her line-up by inkster, and that she commended Lewis’ honesty.
She said:”Stacy’s been very up front, quite honest with me. She realised it is a group event and we want 12 players. And she realised that Ally should have a sense of the golf course.
“Stacy went out and hit a few shots on Monday and it didn’t go well, and I think we both kind of understood that it was not going to move well. Because she is one of our leaders, because I picked Stacy, it’s just a tough decision and I truly wanted her to perform.
“But I feel as if I truly have the best of both worlds ; I’ve got a healthy participant in Ally, and I’ve Stacy helping out us. It’s disappointing for her, but I mentioned ten years from now it’s going to be a blip on your lifetime. You’ve got a great deal more Solheim Cups, and you’ve got a great deal more golf this season that you will need to consider.”
Lewis thanked her team-mates for their service since it became clear she would need to draw, and that she spent most of Tuesday’s clinic alongside McDonald.
“I have had time to process it along with the team was super supportive,” she added. “The women have been great and they have helped me a lot during it. It is just very disappointing since this is my favorite tournament we have. And tee, there’s nothing like it. So I am just disappointed I do not have to hit on that shot. But I’ll be seeing.”
